Why has Samsung SDS made the decision not to enhance Samsung Contact any further?
While Samsung Contact's technology is still robust and useful, all software products have a life cycle. Samsung Contact was built on the foundation of OpenMail that had been in existence for 12 years. Samsung Contact has been significantly enhanced since then, bringing the age of the product to 18 years. When a product's life cycle reaches these proportions it is often better to re-architect the next generation messaging platform with state-of-the-art innovations to meet future requirements. This is not in alignment with the SDS strategic vision.

Samsung SDS is a quality IT solutions provider offering a wide range of services, such as consulting, System Integration, IT outsourcing, packaged software solutions and technical training. To best serve our customers overall, we have made the decision to focus and invest in our core capabilities, where we can optimize impact. This decision will allow us to fortify our core expertise and also invest in new growth engines that align better with our IT solutions provider strategy.

Licensing
Can my licenses be used beyond 2007?
Yes, the licenses can be used beyond 2007. However, product maintenance will stop at the end of 2007. It's in your best interest to migrate to another platform by then.
Support
Will there still be customer support?
Yes, support for customers with valid licenses and support contracts will be available until the end of 2007.
What about support renewals for 2006 and 2007?
Support contracts can be renewed for a full year.
What about support renewals in 2007 that extends into 2008?
We won't renew contracts to go past the end of 2007, however we'll pro-rate support until the end of 2007 if desired. Again, we strongly urge you to make plans to transition to your new platform by the end of 2007.
Is there any possibility of extending my support into 2008?
No. We urge you to have migrated to your new platform by the end of 2007.
How long will the knowledge database remain online?
The self service portal will become inaccessible at the end of 2007, but the documents contained within it will be moved to the web site.
How long will the web site remain accessible?
The web site will remain online until at least the end of 2008, to provide access to documentation.
Patching and new features
Will there be any product enhancements?
Samsung SDS will not enhance the product and there will be no new functionality or features beyond that delivered in 9.2.
Will you be patching new bugs that are discovered?
Samsung SDS will continue to fix serious or critical defects for Samsung Contact 9.2 until the end of 2007.
The patches will be released as 9.2.1, 9.2.2 and so on.
When will these patches be released?
As the patches are based on important fixes, there is no set schedule; they'll be on an "as needed" basis.
Is there any way of getting specific new features that I need added to the product?
No. We have historically taken into account the needs of our entire supported community when deciding on new features. It is most important to focus on bugs, rather than new functionality from this point forward.
Will you be patching older versions of the software?
Samsung Contact has always been patched to the latest version, in this case, 9.2. This won't change. Migration
What do you recommend as a new platform?
We can't make recommendations for customers on what product to choose. However, it is in your best interest to start investigating several different products to see which best fits your organization and future requirements, and plan the migration.
Can you help us with our migration?
No, however there is a Samsung Contact migration partner detailed in the "Key factors to consider when migrating from Samsung Contact" whitepaper who can offer their services. Please contact them directly for any guidance and assistance.
