--- RELEASE NOTES - Samsung Contact Release 7.5.0 Clients --- These Release Notes provide important information about the Samsung Contact release 7.5.0 Clients (Web based client and Java-based Windows and Linux clients). The release 7.5.0 clients are supported with Samsung Contact Server versions 7.1.0 and 7.1.1. They are not supported with HP OpenMail. * You should read these Release Notes before using the Samsung Contact Clients. * The Samsung Contact web site contains the latest product and support information. http://www.samsungcontact.com/ CONTENTS ======== o SAMSUNG CONTACT 7.5.0 WEB CLIENT o SAMSUNG CONTACT 7.5.0 JAVA WINDOWS/LINUX CLIENT o LANGUAGE SUPPORT o CONFIGURING THE SAMSUNG CONTACT SERVER WHEN USING PIMS SAMSUNG CONTACT 7.5.0 WEB CLIENT ================================ Browser Software required ------------------------- If you are using Netscape Communicator, version 4.7 or higher is required. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 5.01 or higher is required. TCL library ----------- The TCL library should be installed on the web server, in order to use the Web Client. The file 'libtcl.so' should exist in the system library directory. (e.g. /usr/lib) If it's not, you can download and install the library from the Internet site such as, http://tcl.sourceforge.net/ Session Timeout & New Mail Check Period --------------------------------------- The Web client defines the "SESSION-PERIOD" setting in the profile of each language, which is used for timing out the Web session (for example, when the user closes the Web browser without using the Logout icon). The setting is set as 60 minutes by default currently, but the administrator can change this value according to the system environment. If the user wants to avoid an unexpected Session Timeout, the user should set the New Mail Check Period value in Mail Options to the lowest value. The lowest value is currently 5 minutes. If the value is '0', message notification is disabled. Saving attachments using Netscape 6 or above -------------------------------------------- For Netscape 6 or above, when you click "Save As" to save attachments to your PC, there are some versions of the Netscape browser which do not show the extension of the file (Netscape 6, 6.2, 6.2.1, and 6.2.2). At this time, if you do not change the filename and do save the file as it is, the filename including the extension will be preserved when being saved. But if you change the filename, the extension of the filename will be lost. Saving attachments using Internet Explorer ------------------------------------------ Currently, if you click an attachment to download it to disk, the window named "Save to file" will pop up. To save it to disk, you can click the icon or button named "Get the file", check the contents of the file displayed, and save it by using the browser's "Save As" function. When using this method, for some file types the browser's plugins do not allow the attachment to be saved in the original format (for example .png files are saved as bitmaps with .bmp extensions). This problem can be avoided by clicking the "Get the file" icon on the Toolbar (instead of the "Get the file" button on the page), then using the browser "Save As". In this case the browsers should let you save the file in its original format with the original extension (e.g. if the attachment has a '.png' extension, if you tried to save it using "Save As" in the browser, it only lets you save a '.bmp' extension; but if you use the "Get the file" icon on the Toolbar, you can preserve the '.png' extension on saving the attachment). SAMSUNG CONTACT 7.5.0 JAVA WINDOWS/LINUX CLIENT =============================================== Samsung Contact Java Client supports the following fonts -------------------------------------------------------- "Arial", "Courier New", "Lucida Bright", "Lucida Console", "Lucida Sans", "Lucida Sans Typewriter", "Times New Roman", "Default", "Dialog", "DialogInput", "Monospaced", "SansSerif", "Serif" Samsung Contact Java Client supports Red Hat 7.2 in Linux --------------------------------------------------------- Red Hat 7.3 will show broken fonts in the user interface in multi-byte language environments. This problem maybe can be worked around by modification of the X-Window font.properties. Upgrading/Migration from pre-releases ------------------------------------- This is the first release of the client; upgrading from previous pre-release versions is not officially supported. Users who have been using pre-release clients should use their pre-release client to copy any folders in their local filing cabinet to the server filing cabinet before installing the released client and creating a new message store. Direct connect to server ------------------------ If you use the Local Message Storage, it takes time to synchronise all your messages from the Server to your hard disk. If you do not want to synchronise your messages, you can use the client to connect directly to the Server. To do this you can log in to the server directly by selecting 'Sever Message Storage' from the Login window. LANGUAGE SUPPORT ================ This release of the clients is localised into English and Korean. Other languages will be available in the near future. CONFIGURING THE SAMSUNG CONTACT SERVER WHEN USING PIMS ====================================================== Holiday information ------------------- The files containing holiday information should be placed in the relevant language directories under "/var/opt/openmail/nls/". They all should have the name of "holiday.info". The administrator should enter the holiday information each year into this file, in order to supply the users of the server with holiday information. The 'holiday.info' file is divided into two sections; one is the index section of the countries which have their holiday and the other is the detail contents section which lists the details of the holiday of each country. [Country Index] Country Key Name1=Localized Country Name1 Country Key Name2=Localized Country Name2 Country Key Name3=Localized Country Name3 [Country Key Name1] *** Holiday Date + TAB Key + Localized Name for Holiday + TAB Key + Default English Holiday Info + TAB Key + Notes Only one tab key is allowed between two fields e.g. [Country Key Name1] 1997/01/01 New Year's Day New Year's Day (1st Day) Notes1 1997/05/01 May Day May Day Notes2 1997/12/25 Christmas Day Christmas Day Notes3 1998/01/01 New Year's Day New Year's Day (1st Day) Notes1 1998/05/01 May Day May Day Notes2 1998/12/25 Christmas Day Christmas Day Notes3 2002/01/01 New Year's Day New Year's Day (1st Day) Notes1 2002/05/01 May Day May Day Notes2 2002/12/25 Christmas Day Christmas Day Notes3 Samsung Contact Free/Busy synchronization ----------------------------------------- You can check the Free/Busy time of other users when creating an Event and inviting other users in the Samsung Contact server. At this time, the server uses the Directory called 'CONTACT-FREEBUSY', which is a Data Repository used internally by the server. Depending on the method of installation, the administrator may need to create the 'CONTACT-FREEBUSY' directory initially. To create the directory: omnewdir -d "CONTACT-FREEBUSY" -t s Assign the access right to the ordinary users : ommodacln -t dir -l "CONTACT-FREEBUSY" -g default -c +u In case of using multiple instances of the Samsung Contact, you need to configure the proper settings of the Directory Synchronization with 'CONTACT-FREEBUSY' directory of other instances to check the Free/Busy time of the users of other servers.
