You can use the 7.5.1 clients with the Samsung Contact Server version 7.1.0, 7.1.1 or 8.0.0. You cannot use the clients with HP OpenMail. This release of the clients is localized into American, English, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Swedish. The 7.5.1 Web Client also supports Finnish. Read these Release Notes before installing and using the Samsung Contact clients. The Samsung Contact web site contains the latest product and support information: http://www.samsungcontact.com/ CONTENTS ======== o SAMSUNG CONTACT 7.5.1 WEB CLIENT o SAMSUNG CONTACT 7.5.1 JAVA WINDOWS/LINUX CLIENT o CONFIGURING THE SAMSUNG CONTACT SERVER WHEN USING PIMS SAMSUNG CONTACT 7.5.1 WEB CLIENT ================================ Web browser software required ----------------------------- The following web browsers are supported: o Netscape Communicator version 4.7 or higher. o Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 5.01 or higher. The Web browser must support JavaScript. Web server software required ---------------------------- A Web server is required for the Web client. The Web server must support CGI 1.1. The Apache HTTP Server 1, version 1.3.22 or later is supported. TCL library is required ----------------------- To use the Web client, the TCL library must be installed on the Web server. The file 'libtcl.so' must exist in the system library directory, for example, /usr/lib. If it is not installed, download and install it from an Internet site such as: http://tcl.sourceforge.net/ Session Timeout & New Mail Check Period --------------------------------------- The Web client defines the "SESSION-PERIOD" setting in the profile of each language, which is used for timing out the Web session, for example, when the user closes the Web browser without using the Logout icon. The setting is set as 60 minutes by default currently, but the administrator can change this value according to the system environment. If the user wants to avoid an unexpected Session Timeout, the user should set the New Mail Check Period value in Mail Options to the lowest value. The lowest value is currently 5 minutes. If the value is '0', message notification is disabled. Saving attachments using Netscape 6 or above -------------------------------------------- For Netscape 6 or above, when you click "Save As" to save attachments to your PC, there are some versions of the Netscape browser which do not show the extension of the file (Netscape 6, 6.2, 6.2.1, and 6.2.2). If you save the file without changing the file name, the extension is preserved. If you change the file name, the extension is lost. Saving attachments using Internet Explorer ------------------------------------------ Currently, if you click an attachment to download it to disk, the window named "Save to file" will pop up. To save it to disk, you can click the icon or button named "Get the file", check the contents of the file displayed, and save it by using the browser's "Save As" function. When using this method, for some file types the browser's plugins do not allow the attachment to be saved in the original format, for example, .png files are saved as bitmaps with .bmp extensions. This problem can be avoided by clicking the "Get the file" icon on the Toolbar (instead of the "Get the file" button on the page), then using the browser's "Save As" function. In this case the browser should let you save the file in its original format with the original extension. For example, if the attachment has a '.png' extension, and you tried to save it using "Save As" in the browser, it only lets you save a '.bmp' extension; but if you use the "Get the file" icon on the Toolbar, you can preserve the '.png' extension when you save the attachment. Reading a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 attachment on Windows XP ------------------------------------------------------------ When attempting to read a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 attachment, the new window, that should contain the attachment, reports incorrectly that the session has terminated. This is a known problem with PowerPoint XP that is fixed by installing the Microsoft Office XP service pack 2. SAMSUNG CONTACT 7.5.1 JAVA WINDOWS/LINUX CLIENT =============================================== Samsung Contact Java Client supports the following fonts -------------------------------------------------------- "Arial", "Courier New", "Lucida Bright", "Lucida Console", "Lucida Sans", "Lucida Sans Typewriter", "Times New Roman", "Default", "Dialog", "DialogInput", "Monospaced", "SansSerif", "Serif" Samsung Contact Java Client supports Red Hat Linux version 7.2. --------------------------------------------------------------- Red Hat 7.3 will show broken fonts in the user interface in multi-byte language environments. This problem maybe can be worked around by modification of the X-Window font.properties. Upgrading/Migration from pre-releases ------------------------------------- Upgrading from previous PRE-release versions, for example, Beta or pre-release versions is not officially supported. Users who have been using pre-release clients should use their pre-release client to copy any folders in their local filing cabinet to the server filing cabinet before installing the released client and creating a new message store. 7.5.1 is fully compatible with 7.5.0 local message storage data. Connecting directly to the Server Message Store --------------------------------------------------------- When you have installed the Java Client you can either connect directly to the server message store or create a new local message store. As it may take some time to synchronize all your messages from the Server to a new local message store on your hard disk, you may want to log in to the server directly. To do this, select "Server Message Storage" from the client login window. You can create a new local message store later. Changing Languages When Using the Java Client --------------------------------------------- When you first log on to the Samsung Contact Server, the language that you use is stored on the server. This language is used to determine the language for all the category lists. When you log in to the Java Client using a different language to the one that you first logged on with, you will see the following problem. The items displayed in the Category drop-down lists when you create a new event, BizCard or To Dos are displayed in the primary language, not the language that you are currently using. Accessing Your Local Message Store Using the Java Client -------------------------------------------------------- When you use the Java Client to log in to your local message store, the language defaults to the language that you last used to log in to the server message store. The language is not set to the language that is defined in the profile for the local message store. For example, if you usually log in to the server message store using English, and log in to your local message store using your French profile, the displayed language for your local message store is English, not French. If you always use the same language to log in to both your local message store and the server message store, this is not a problem. If you work with different languages, you can work around this problem by doing the following before logging in to your local message store: 1) Log in to the server message store using the language that you want to use in your local message store. For example, if you use a French language profile to access your local message store, select French as the language when you log in to the server message store. 2) Log out of the server message store. 3) Log in to your local message store using your French profile. The client is displayed in French. Alternatively, you can use the Tool/Server Options to set the server language to French before you exit from the server message store. When you log on to your local message store the default server language is set to French and you can use your French profile. The next time you log on to the server message store, change the language back to English. CONFIGURING THE SAMSUNG CONTACT SERVER WHEN USING PIMS ====================================================== Index data and Countries information on BizCards ------------------------------------------------ The client CD-ROM provides a language-specific index and country information for contacts in the following location: CLIENTS/LANGUAGE/language/bizcard.info, where "language" is the name of a supported language. Copy the bizcard.info file for each language from the client CD-ROM to the corresponding language directory in /var/opt/openmail/nls on the Samsung Contact server. Holiday information ------------------- The client CD-ROM provides holiday information for each language in the following location: CLIENTS/LANGUAGE/language/holiday.info, where "language" is the name of a supported language. Copy the holiday.info file for each language from the client CD-ROM to the corresponding language directory in /var/opt/openmail/nls/ on the Samsung Contact server. Update the holiday information in this file each year so that users get the correct holiday information. The 'holiday.info' file is divided into two sections; one is the index section of the countries which have their holiday and the other is the detailed contents section which lists the details of the holiday of each country. The following shows the format of an example holiday.info file: [Country Index] Country Key Name1=Localized Country Name1 Country Key Name2=Localized Country Name2 Country Key Name3=Localized Country Name3 [Country Key Name1] *** Holiday Date + TAB Key + Localized Name for Holiday + TAB Key + Default English Holiday Info + TAB Key + Notes Only one tab key is allowed between two fields e.g. [Country Key Name1] 1997/01/01 New Year's Day New Year's Day (1st Day) Notes1 1997/05/01 May Day May Day Notes2 1997/12/25 Christmas Day Christmas Day Notes3 1998/01/01 New Year's Day New Year's Day (1st Day) Notes1 1998/05/01 May Day May Day Notes2 1998/12/25 Christmas Day Christmas Day Notes3 2002/01/01 New Year's Day New Year's Day (1st Day) Notes1 2002/05/01 May Day May Day Notes2 2002/12/25 Christmas Day Christmas Day Notes3 Samsung Contact Free/Busy synchronization ----------------------------------------- You can check the Free/Busy time of other users when creating an Event and inviting other users on the same Samsung Contact server. The server uses a Directory called 'CONTACT-FREEBUSY', which is a Data Repository used internally by the server. Depending on what has been set up at installation time, the administrator may need to create the 'CONTACT-FREEBUSY' directory. To check whether the directory has been created, enter: omlistdirs If the directory is not listed, create it by entering: omaddfb If you want users to be able to look up free/busy time across servers (or instances), i.e. a user on one server is to be able to see the free/busy time of a user on another server, you must set up directory synchronization of the CONTACT-FREEBUSY directory between servers. See the "Samsung Contact Overview" and "Technical Reference Guide" for more information.
