Read this section to find out whether you need to purchase licenses before installing Samsung Contact. To purchase licenses directly, or to find your local sales office, see the Samsung contact Web site. For more information about the new Samsung Contact licensing functionality, see the "Samsung Contact Licensing Guide". This is the file LICENSING.PDF in the DOCS directory on your distribution media. For licensing purposes, the issue date of the Samsung Contact 8.0.0 and 8.0.1 server software is 26-November-2002. This section covers the following topics: o New Samsung Contact Installation o Upgrading from a Previous Version of Samsung Contact o Upgrading to Samsung Contact from HP OpenMail o Using the MC/ServiceGuard Utility on HP-UX o Free 5-user License ----- New Samsung Contact Installation ------ If you are installing Samsung Contact for the first time, you do not need to purchase a license to install it. The software comes with a free evaluation license that allows you to install and run the software for 45 days while you purchase valid licenses. Note that it may take some time to raise orders and issue licenses, so allow sufficient time to get the licenses before the evaluation period expires. ----- Upgrading from a Previous Version of Samsung Contact ----- Note: This section does not apply to SuSE Linux or Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. If you have purchased a maintenance agreement, you may be entitled to upgrade to this version of Samsung Contact version without purchasing new licenses. On your current Samsung Contact system, run the sclicense command. o If the Latest valid Contact issue date is earlier than the software issue date, you will NOT be allowed to upgrade. Do not attempt to install the software. You must purchase support licenses for your existing servers before installing this version. o If the Latest valid Contact issue date is later than the software issue date, you will be able to upgrade to the new version without purchasing additional licenses. ----- Upgrading to Samsung Contact from HP OpenMail ------ Note: This section does not apply to SuSE Linux or Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. You must purchase a valid Samsung Contact license before you can upgrade from OpenMail to Samsung Contact. Existing OpenMail licenses are not recognized by Samsung Contact. To obtain a license, you need to provide some information about your OpenMail server. Do the following: 1) Copy the program SCLICINFO from the appropriate platform directory on the SERVER CD-ROM. For example: a) cp /mnt/cdrom/SERVER/HPUX/SCLICINFO /tmp/sclicinfo b) chmod +x /tmp/sclicinfo 2) Run SCLICINFO to get a Samsung Contact serial number for your server. You must do this for each server that you want to license. This includes servers running on different machines and multiple servers (instances) running on a single machine. For multiple instances on a single machine, set OMCURRENT to the name of instance and then run SCLICINFO. Repeat this for each instance. 3) Record all the output of sclicinfo. You will be asked to provide this information when purchasing licenses. ----- Running Samsung Contact with MC/ServiceGuard ----- If you are running Samsung Contact in an MC/ServiceGuard environment, you do not need separate licenses for each machine that the MC/ServiceGuard packages run on. You must make sure that you have purchased sufficient licenses for all the server instances running on your main machines. These licenses are automatically available on the MC/ServiceGuard systems. ----- Samsung Contact Unified Communications ------------------------- If you have installed the Samsung Contact Unified Communications product, you must install the UC licenses you purchased in order to use the UC functionality with Samsung Contact. ----- Free 5-User License Key ----- At the end of these release notes is a free 5-user license key. This allows you to set up and run an unsupported Samsung Contact server with 5 or less users. See the "Licensing Guide" for more information. ______________________________________________________________________ UPGRADING FROM HP OpenMail ______________________________________________________________________ Note: This section does not apply to SuSE Linux or Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. Read this section if you are upgrading from HP OpenMail version 6.0 or 7.0. This section covers the following topics: o Upgrading from OpenMail 6.0 o Before upgrading a system running OpenMail Instances (HP-UX only) o Changes to the Default Auto-Reply Configuration Options o Removing the setting for distributed licensing o OpenMail features not supported in Samsung Contact See the "LICENSING REQUIREMENTS FOR INSTALLATION" section in these release notes for licensing information. ----- Upgrading from OpenMail 6.0 ----- If you are upgrading from OpenMail 6.0, it is recommended that you also read the OpenMail 7.0 release notes before upgrading to Samsung Contact. The OpenMail 7.0 release notes are called OMNOTES.TXT on your distribution media in the OTHER/REL7.0 directory. Alternatively, you can obtain the release notes from http://www.openmail.com ----- Before Upgrading an OpenMail System Running Multiple Instances --- This note applies to HP-UX systems only. Before you upgrade from an OpenMail system running multiple instances, you must do the following additional step: 1) Open the configuration file for the Internet Services daemon /etc/inetd.conf 2) Delete the line that starts openmailpxy ----- Changes to the Default Auto-Reply Configuration Options ----- In Samsung Contact, the default for the configuration option LD_AUTOREPLY_CHECK_ON has been changed to TRUE. This means that by default, auto-replies will only be sent once to each user in any 24 hour period. To retain the previous behavior edit ~/sys/general.cfg to add the following line: LD_AUTOREPLY_CHECK_ON=FALSE This configuration option can now also be set on a per-user basis. ----- Removing the Setting for Distributed Licensing ----- Distributed or virtual licensing is replaced by new license lending functionality. If you have set LML_USE_DIST_LIC=TRUE in ~/sys/general.cfg, sclicense reports that you have valid licenses but Samsung Contact fails to start correctly. You must do the following: 1) Remove the line LML_USE_DIST_LIC=TRUE from general.cfg 2) Restart your Samsung Contact server. ----- OpenMail Features Not Supported in Samsung Contact ------ omadmin. License lending allows you to lend spare licenses to other Samsung Contact servers. For more information, see the "Samsung Contact Licensing Guide". If you are upgrading from OpenMail, note that virtual licensing, also known as "Centralised" or "Distributed Licensing" is replaced by license lending. The following old licensing commands have been retired: omaddlic omaudlic omreqlic omsetlic omshowlic ----- Administration Capabilities ------------------------------------ You can assign administration capabilities to allow users to manage areas of Samsung Contact without giving them full administration capabilities. See the "Samsung Contact Technical Reference Guide". ----- Unified Communications ------------------------------------------ The Samsung Contact server supports the Samsung Contact Unified Communications (UC) product. UC provides a user with a single mailbox for voice, fax and e-mail. It provides a voicemail style telephone user interface known as the TUI (Telephone User Interface). Each user has a virtual telephone number that identifies the user's voicemail account and a personal identification number (PIN). The Samsung Contact version 8.0.0 Java and Web clients support Unified Communications. The Web client does not support recording. See the "Samsung Contact Technical Reference Guide" and the Samsung Contact web site for more information. ----- Virus Checking -------------------------------------------------- A virus checking product, Ahnlab Engine for Samsung Contact is available from the Samsung Contact Web site. You must purchase an additional license to install Ahnlab Engine. See the "Samsung Contact Overview" for more information about configuring Samsung Contact to use Ahnlab Engine. ----- Administering Samsung Contact Remotely Using Stunnel ------------ To protect communications between the Web server and the Samsung Contact server when they are on different machines, you can use Stunnel if you have installed it on your system. Stunnel encrypts TCP connections inside SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). See the "Samsung Contact Web Administration Tool Technical Guide". ----- Partitioning ----------------------------------------------------- Some basic partitioning functionality has been added in this release to allow you to set up partitions for groups of users on the same Samsung Contact server. This allows you to selectively manage a partition and to hide directory entries and bulletin boards from users of other partitions. See the following man pages for more information: omlistpartition, omaddpartition and omdelpartition. Alternatively, you can create separate instances for each groups of users. ----- Problems Fixed in This Release ------------------------------------ The following problems have been fixed in this release: o Improvements needed to Installation Wizard (Linux). o Cannot use 32-bit UIDs (Red Hat 7.2). o Password rules not checked if the password is changed during sign-on. o Internet gateway cannot be configured to produce simple inline RTF content. o Internet gateway aborts on long subjects. o Internet gateway (inbound) hangs on bad 'To' address. o Read Acks not generated by the IMAP server. o "omcpinu -e" fails with multi-byte folder names. o TNEF attachment in MIME message causes Internet gateway crash. o Internet msg with comment-only Sender produces message with no originator. o Basic Item DELETES not recorded in ~/sys/bb/change.log. o Cannot get different conversions for MIME and TNEF variants of Internet gateway. o Mime Browser Controller shuts down with no logging. o Cannot reply with Outlook to msg from Internet user with non-ASCII char in name. o Attachments with common file extensions not recognized upon delivery. o Must have global admin capability in order to use Web Admin. o Sign-on failure message is in the wrong language if the requested language is different from the configured language. ______________________________________________________________________ KNOWN PROBLEMS AND RESTRICTIONS ______________________________________________________________________ ----- Restrictions ------ The Linux installation wizard is not available on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server or SuSE Linux systems. ----- Known Problems ----- This section describes known problems and their solutions: o Running sclicense after a new installation o Upgrade may enable Item Structure and Application Link servers o Partitioning: directory entries for other partitions are shown as deleted entries in Outlook client o POP3 users require mailboxes ----- Running sclicense after a New Installation ----- Before using "sclicense -i" to request a license, you must start Samsung Contact and create at least one user, otherwise sclicense reports the the following error: "This contact instance has never been started, please start it". ----- Upgrade May Enable Item Structure and Application Link Servers ---- This note applies to upgrades on Linux. When you install Samsung Contact using the Linux installation wizard, the Item Structure Server and Application Link Servers are disabled. After an upgrade, they may be enabled again. Do the following: 1) Check if the Item structure Server is enabled: omstat -a 2) Check if the Application Link Server is enabled: omstat -s 3) Turn off the servers: omoff -d0 iss applink 4) Disable the servers so that they are not started when service all is specified: omsetsvc -a iss n omsetsvc -a applink n ----- Partitioning: Directory Entries for Other Partitions are Shown as ---- Deleted Entries This note applies to Outlook clients using the Samsung Contact MAPI Service Provider when you have implemented partitioning. The Client Directory Access (CDA) server builds access tables for the Samsung Contact directory so that sorted lists of directory entries can be provided to clients. By default, the CDA server returns every CDA entry that the client requests. If a directory entry has been deleted or is not available because it is in a different partition, the CDA server returns a dummy entry, labelled "Entry Deleted" instead. When you implement partitioning, client users will see many entries labelled "Entry Deleted" in their address books. These are the directory entries for users on other partitions as well as real deleted entries. You should warn your users about this behaviour when you implement partitioning. ----- POP3 Users Require Mailboxes ----- The omaddu command has a -bulk option that allows you to create a large number of users without mailboxes. This saves disk space as the mailbox is created when the user logs on to the server for the first time. A mailbox is not created automatically when a user logs on to the server using a POP3 client. To work round this problem, a POP3 user without a mailbox must log on to the Samsung Contact server using a different supported client before using a POP3 client. For example, if the user logs on for the first time using the Samsung Contact Web client, a mailbox is created. The mailbox can then be accessed using a POP3 client. ______________________________________________________________________ Samsung Contact DOCUMENTATION ______________________________________________________________________ The Samsung Contact server documentation is available in the DOCS directory on the Server CD-ROM.
