Versions of the Java Client are provided with the JVM included so you can install the JVM at the same time as the Java client. See CLNTINST.TXT in the DOCS directory for more information. Hardware Requirements ---------------------- The minimum hardware requirements are : Windows and Linux : M/M : minimum 128 MB (256 MB is recommended) CPU : 100MHz Pentium II CPU HDD : minimum 35 MB(without JVM) or 75 MB (with JVM) Samsung Contact Java Client supports the following fonts: -------------------------------------------------------- "Arial", "Courier New", "Lucida Bright", "Lucida Console", "Lucida Sans", "Lucida Sans Typewriter", "Times New Roman", "Default", "Dialog", "DialogInput", "Monospaced", "SansSerif", "Serif" Regarding broken fonts in Samsung Contact Java Client ----------------------------------------------------- Some Linux OS will show broken fonts in user interface in Korean and Chinese lanauge environments. It may be possible to work around this problem by changing font.properties.ko.XXX(or font.properties.zh_XXX) in Samsung_Contact/jre/lib into font.properties.ko(or font.properties.zh). Old Local Message Store Not in Synch with Samsung Contact 8.5 ------------------------------------------------------------- Local Message Store 8.0.2 or before will not be in synch with release 8.5. Data in the old Local Message Store is not lost, and everything is still accessible. However, the old Local Message Store and the server will not be in synch for PIM data created after the server migration. Create a new Local Message Store profile to solve the problem. Connecting directly to the Server Message Store ----------------------------------------------- When you have installed the Java Client you can either connect directly to the server message store or create a new local message store. As it may take some time to synchronize all your messages from the Server to a new local message store on your hard disk, you may want to log in to the server directly. To do this, select "Server Message Storage" from the client login window. You can create a new local message store later. Migration of old designate options for PIMS folders --------------------------------------------------- Designate options, created by Samsung Contact Java client, for PIMS folders will be lost during the server migration. Designate options for all PIMS folders will be reset to L (List). Designator info created by clients other than Samsung clients are preserved. Changing Languages When Using the Java Client --------------------------------------------- When you first log on to the Samsung Contact Server, the language that you use is stored on the server. This language is used to determine the language for all the category lists. When you log in to the Java Client using a different language to the one that you first logged on with, you will see the following problem. The items displayed in the Category drop-down lists when you create a new appointment, contact or task are displayed in the primary language, not the language that you are currently using. SAMSUNG CONTACT 8.5 WEB CLIENT ================================ Browser software required ------------------------- The following web browsers are supported: o Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 5.01 or higher. o Netscape Communicator version 6.01 or higher. o Mozilla version 1.1a or higher. The Web browser must support JavaScript. Known problems with Samsung Contact Web Client using Mozilla ------------------------------------------------------------ o On Mozilla brower 1.2 or 1.2.* : Clicking a link on attached normal file doesn't do anything on Mozilla brower 1.2 or 1.2.*. o 'Help' doesn't work correctly in multi-byte Samsung Contact Web Client : Excuting Help contents doesn't work correctly in the Korean, Japanese, Chinese version of Samsung Contact Web Client on all versions of Mozilla. Web server software required ---------------------------- A Web server is required for the Web client. The Web server must support CGI 1.1. The Apache HTTP Server 1, version 1.3.22 or later is supported. Clear the Cache Before Using the Web Client For the First Time -------------------------------------------------------------- This note applies to all users who have been using the previous version of the Web client. After upgrading to the new version of the Web client, you must ask users to delete any temporary Internet files that are held in cache BEFORE they log in to use the Web client for the first time. If they do not do this, they will experience various problems associated with cached JavaScripts from the previous version of the Web client. Session Timeout & New Mail Check Period --------------------------------------- The Web client defines the "SESSION-PERIOD" setting in the profile of each language, which is used for timing out the Web session, for example, when the user closes the Web browser without using the Logout icon. The default is 60 minutes but the administrator can change this value according to the system environment. If the user wants to avoid an unexpected Session Timeout, the user should set the New Mail Check Period value in Mail Options to the lowest value. The lowest value is currently 5 minutes. If the value is '0', message notification is disabled. Designate options for PIMS folders ---------------------------------- To set the designate options for Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, or Notes folders to anything higher than R (Ready Only), the designate option for Filing Cabinet must be set to R/A/M/D. If the designate option for Filing Cabinet is set to None or R, the designates will not be able to do anything more than list or read the Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, or Notes folders, regardless of the designate options set for these folders. Migration of old designate options for PIMS folders --------------------------------------------------- Designate options, created by the Samsung Contact Web client, for PIMS folders will be lost during the server migration. Previously designated users will no longer have access permission to any of the PIMS folders. Designate info created by clients other than Samsung Contact clients are preserved. Saving attachments using Netscape 6 or above -------------------------------------------- For Netscape 6 or above, when you click "Save As" to save attachments to your PC, there are some versions of the Netscape browser that do not show the extension of the file (Netscape 6, 6.2, 6.2.1, and 6.2.2). If you save the file without changing the file name, the extension is preserved. If you change the file name, the extension is lost. Reading a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 attachment on Windows XP ------------------------------------------------------------ When attempting to read a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 attachment, the new window, that should contain the attachment, reports incorrectly that the session has terminated. This is a known problem with PowerPoint XP that is fixed by installing the Microsoft Office XP service pack 2. CONFIGURING THE SAMSUNG CONTACT SERVER WHEN USING PIMS ====================================================== Automatic processing of meeting responses by Local Delivery --------------------------------------------------------- Automatic processing of meeting responses by Local Delivery MUST be enabled by adding the following configuration option to general.cfg : "USE_CONTACT_PIMS=TRUE". If this option is not present, meeting responses will not be processed by the Contact clients and will remain in the InTray until they are removed by the user. Index data and countries information on Contacts ------------------------------------------------ The client CD-ROM provides a language-specific index and country information for contacts in the following location: /LANGUAGE/language/bizcard.info in the Samsung Contact Web Site, where "language" is the name of a supported language. This file is held in the corresponding language directory in /var/opt/openmail/nls on the Samsung Contact server. Holiday information ------------------- The client CD-ROM provides holiday information for each language in the following location: LANGUAGE/language/holiday.info in the Samsung Contact web Site, where "language" is the name of a supported language. This file is held in the corresponding language directory in /var/opt/openmail/nls/ on the Samsung Contact server. You will need to update the holiday information in this file each year so that users get the correct holiday information. The 'holiday.info' file is divided into two sections; one is the index section of the countries which have their holiday and the other is the detailed contents section which lists the details of the holiday of each country. The following shows the format of an example holiday.info file: [Country Index] Country Key Name1=Localized Country Name1 Country Key Name2=Localized Country Name2 Country Key Name3=Localized Country Name3 [Country Key Name1] *** Holiday Date + TAB Key + Localized Name for Holiday + TAB Key + Default English Holiday Info + TAB Key + Notes Only one tab key is allowed between two fields For example: [Country Key Name1] 1997/01/01 New Year's Day New Year's Day (1st Day) Notes1 1997/05/01 May Day May Day Notes2 1997/12/25 Christmas Day Christmas Day Notes3 1998/01/01 New Year's Day New Year's Day (1st Day) Notes1 1998/05/01 May Day May Day Notes2 1998/12/25 Christmas Day Christmas Day Notes3 2002/01/01 New Year's Day New Year's Day (1st Day) Notes1 2002/05/01 May Day May Day Notes2 2002/12/25 Christmas Day Christmas Day Notes3 Samsung Contact Free/Busy synchronization ----------------------------------------- You can check the Free/Busy time of other users when creating an Event and inviting other users on the same Samsung Contact server. The server uses a Directory called 'CONTACT-FREEBUSY', which is a Data Repository used internally by the server. Depending on what has been set up at installation time, the administrator may need to create the 'CONTACT-FREEBUSY' directory. To check whether the directory has been created, enter: omlistdirs If the directory is not listed, create it by entering: omaddfb If you want users to be able to look up free/busy time across servers (or instances), that is, a user on one server is to be able to see the free/busy time of a user on another server, you must set up directory synchronization of the CONTACT-FREEBUSY directory between servers. See the "Samsung Contact Overview" and "Technical Reference Guide" for more information.
