____________________________________________________________________________ Samsung Contact 9.1 Clients Release Notes December 2004 Edition 1.0 ____________________________________________________________________________ These release notes provide important information about the Samsung Contact release 9.1 Web client, Lite Web client and MAPI Service Providers. Read these Release Notes before installing and using the Samsung Contact clients. You can use the 9.1 clients with the Samsung Contact Server version 9.1. However, the 9.1 Web clients are not backwards compatible with Samsung Contact server versions prior to 9.1. This is because this release now supports PIMS interoperability. Note that you cannot use this version of the Web client with HP OpenMail server. Known problems with Samsung Contact Web Client using Mozilla ------------------------------------------------------------ o Clicking a link on attached normal file doesn't do anything on Mozilla Brower 1.2 or 1.2.x. Software Required ----------------- o Web Server: A Web Server is required for the Samsung Contact Web client. The Web server must support CGI 1.1. The minimum version of the Apache HTTP Server (version 2) that the Samsung Contact server has been tested on with Red Hat Linux 8 and 9 is 2.0.40. The minimum version of the Apache HTTP Server (version 1) that the Samsung Contact server has been tested on with all other supported platforms is version 1.3.22. o Web Browser: A Web browser is required to access the Samsung Contact Web client. You should be able to use any Web browser that supports JavaScript and cookies. Clear the Cache Before Using the Web Client For the First Time -------------------------------------------------------------- This note applies to all users who have been using the previous version of the Web client. After upgrading to the new version of the Web client, you must ask users to delete any temporary Internet files that are held in cache BEFORE they log in to use the Web client for the first time. If they do not do this, they will experience various problems associated with cached JavaScripts from the previous version of the Web client. Session Timeout & New Mail Check Period --------------------------------------- The Web client defines the "SESSION-PERIOD" setting in the profile of each language, which is used for timing out the Web session, for example, when the user closes the Web browser without using the Logout icon. The default is 60 minutes but the administrator can change this value according to the system environment. If the user wants to avoid an unexpected Session Timeout, the user should set the New Mail Check Period value in Mail Options to the lowest value. The lowest value is currently 5 minutes. If the value is '0', message notification is disabled. Designate options for PIMS folders ---------------------------------- To set the designate options for Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, or Notes folders to anything higher than R (Ready Only), the designate option for Filing Cabinet must be set to R/A/M/D. If the designate option for Filing Cabinet is set to None or R, the designates will not be able to do anything more than list or read the Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, or Notes folders, regardless of the designate options set for these folders. Migration of old designate options for PIMS folders --------------------------------------------------- Designate options, created by the Samsung Contact Web client, for PIMS folders will be lost during the server migration. Previously designated users will no longer have access permission to any of the PIMS folders. Designate info created by clients other than Samsung Contact clients are preserved. Saving attachments using Netscape 6.xx -------------------------------------- For Netscape 6 or above, when you click "Save As" to save attachments to your PC, there are some versions of the Netscape browser that do not show the extension of the file (Netscape 6, 6.2, 6.2.1, and 6.2.2). If you save the file without changing the file name, the extension is preserved. If you change the file name, the extension is lost. Reading a Microsoft PowerPoint XP attachment on Windows XP ------------------------------------------------------------ When attempting to read a Microsoft PowerPoint XP attachment, the new window, that should contain the attachment, reports incorrectly that the session has terminated. This is a known problem with PowerPoint XP that is fixed by installing the Microsoft Office XP service pack 2. MAPI SP Defects Addressed ------------------------- 9.1.0 Fixes: - Can't use an IP address instead of server name when creating a profile (768) 8.5.1 Fixes: - HTML messages sent from Drafts folder have extra backslash(\) characters (1737) Restrictions and Known Problems ------------------------------- This section describes restrictions and known problems in the operation of the Samsung Contact MAPI Service Providers. 1. Without Server Store profiles are not supported. Please use OFS. 2. If PIMS folders under Filing Cabinet are deleted with a Samsung Contact Web client, they are not recreated when Outlook starts. Do not delete any of PIMS folders unless you will not ever use them again. 3. After MAPI SP is uninstalled, starting Outlook may experience a problem, in which case an error message "mapisp32.dll cannot be found" pops up. If this problem occurs, remove "Samsung Contact" from the Outlook Service list (which will be displayed by selecting Control Panel -> Mail -> Service Tab). 4. Ordinary users do not have write access to files in 'C:\windows\openmail\' on NTFS file systems. This can cause an access denied error when creating an Outlook profile. The solution to this is to either make the user a member of the 'power users' or 'administrators' group, or move the openmail folder to a location other than 'c:\windows'. To move the openmail folder, choose the general tab from the Samsung Contact Properties dialog when creating the Outlook profile. Change the 'Local Files' directory to a location where the user has write access, for example, 'C:\openmail'. CONFIGURING THE SAMSUNG CONTACT SERVER WHEN USING PIMS ============================================================== Automatic processing of meeting responses by Local Delivery ----------------------------------------------------------- Automatic processing of meeting responses by Local Delivery MUST be enabled by adding the following configuration option to ~/sys/general.cfg : "USE_CONTACT_PIMS=TRUE". If this option is not present, meeting responses will not be processed by the Samsung Contact Web client. Index data and countries information on Contacts ------------------------------------------------ Samsung Contact server provides a language-specific index and country information for Contacts in the following location: ~/nls//bizcard.info where "" is the name of a supported language. You may customize the Contacts index and country information by editing this file. Holiday information ------------------- Samsung Contact server also provides holiday information for each language in the following location: ~/nls//holiday.info where "" is the name of a supported language. By editing this file, you may customize the Calendar holiday information. The 'holiday.info' file is divided into two sections; one is the index section of the countries which have their holiday, and the other is the detailed contents section which lists the details of the holiday of each country. The format of an example holiday.info file: [Country Index] Country Key Name1=Localized Country Name1 Country Key Name2=Localized Country Name2 Country Key Name3=Localized Country Name3 [Country Key Name1] Holiday Date + TAB Key + Localized Name for Holiday + TAB Key + Default English Holiday Info + TAB Key + Notes Only one tab key is allowed between two fields For example: [Country Key Name1] 2006/01/02 New Year's Day New Year's Day Notes 2006/01/16 Birthday of Martin Luther King,Jr Birthday of Martin Luther King,Jr Notes 2006/02/20 Washington's Birthday Washington's Birthday Notes 2006/05/29 Memorial Day Memorial Day Notes 2006/07/04 Independence Day Independence Day Notes Samsung Contact Free/Busy Synchronization ----------------------------------------- You can check the Free/Busy time of other users when creating an Event and inviting other users on the same Samsung Contact server. The server uses a Directory called 'CONTACT-FREEBUSY', which is a Data Repository used internally by the server. Depending on what has been set up at installation time, the administrator may need to create the 'CONTACT-FREEBUSY' directory. To check whether the directory has been created, enter: omlistdirs If the directory is not listed, create it by entering: omaddfb If you want users to be able to look up free/busy time across servers (or instances), that is, a user on one server is to be able to see the free/busy time of a user on another server, you must set up directory synchronization of the CONTACT-FREEBUSY directory between servers. See the "Samsung Contact Overview" and "Technical Reference Guide" for more information.
