If it is not installed, the Linux wizard will fail with the following error: "/usr/bin/wish could not be found." For more information about obtaining the tk package, go to the Web site for your Linux distribution. o Sendmail To connect to other Samsung Contact systems or an Internet Mail Gateway, you need Sendmail as your message transport. Samsung Contact supports the versions of Sendmail provided with the supported base operating systems. o Web Server A Web Server is required for the Web Administration Tool and the Samsung Contact Web client. The Web server must support CGI 1.1. The minimum version of the Apache HTTP Server (version 2) that the Samsung Contact server has been tested on with Red Hat Linux 8 and 9 is 2.0.40. The minimum version of the Apache HTTP Server (version 1) that the Samsung Contact server has been tested on with all other supported platforms is version 1.3.22. For management using the Web Administration Tool from a remote Web server machine, Stunnel is supported. See the New Features section later in this document for more information. o Web Browser A Web browser is required to access the Web Administration Tool and the Samsung Contact Web client. You should be able to use any Web browser that supports JavaScript and cookies. The following Web browsers have been certified for use with the Web Administration Tool and the Web client: - Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher. - Netscape Communicator 6.xx. The version 9.1 Web client also supports Mozilla version 1.1a or higher. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SUPPORTED CLIENTS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This version of the Samsung Contact server supports the 9.1 Samsung Contact Web client and MAPI Service Providers. The 9.1 clients are not backward compatible with the Samsung Contact server versions prior to 9.1. This version of the Samsung Contact server also supports the 8.0.0, 8.0.2 8.5.0 and 8.5.1 MAPI Service Providers. However, only the 9.1 MAPI Service Providers support the new Calendar interoperability enhancements. The 9.1 server is not backward compatible with the Samsung Contact Web client versions prior to 9.1. The Samsung Contact clients are available in a separate client download from the Samsung Contact Web site. To install the Web client, see the installation instructions provided in the Client download. To install the MAPI Service Providers, see the installation instructions provided in the MAPI Service Providers Technical Guide. Samsung Contact is partially compatible with HP OpenMail clients. See the section "OpenMail Features Not Supported by Samsung Contact". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW FEATURES AND CHANGES ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This section covers the new features and changes. In the 9.1 release: o The Samsung Contact Calendar and the proprietary Outlook calendars are now partially compatible. See the "How To: PIMS Interoperability" and "Samsung Contact PIMS Interoperability - Known Limitations" for more details. o A new virus wrapper that supports the use of the Trend, McAfee, Clam, Sophos and AhnLab antivirus products. This new feature also supports the use of multiple scanners with the Service Router. NOTE: Clam is an open-source product, and thus, can change features without notification. Please see the "How To: Antivirus" for the actual versions that are tested and supported. o A new LDAP client, based on OpenLDAP technology. This feature allows users to be authenticated via an separate, LDAP directory server (LDAP v3.0 compatible). See the "How To: User Authentication to an LDAP Server". ONCE THE SERVER SOFTWARE VERSION 9.1 HAS BEEN INSTALLED, THERE IS NO WAY TO REVERT TO A PREVIOUS VERSION EXCEPT TO DO A COMPLETE RESTORE OF THE SYSTEM FROM A BACKUP TAKEN BEFORE THE UPGRADE AND WHILST SAMSUNG CONTACT WAS SHUTDOWN. This means a full restore of: /opt/openmail, /opt/contact (if upgraded from SC 8.5), /var/opt/openmail (or appropriate instance directory) Clients must also be reinstalled to the previous version as 9.1 clients only work with 9.1 server or above. In the 8.5 release: o SUBMIT and LMTP support in the SMTP relay The SMTP Relay provides support for SUBMIT (RFC 2476) and LMTP (RFC 2033). By default SMTP is on and SUBMIT and LMTP are off. The smtpd.cfg configuration file details how to change this. This allows for better integration with postfix and sendmail. For example, if you want to run postfix on your incoming mail, but allow local users to authenticate, then add the following changes to smtpd.cfg: SMTP=NONE SUBMIT=587 LMTP=24 Then configure postfix to direct local mail to the LMTP port and configure clients to submit on the SUBMIT port. o Administration from a remote web server It is now possible to use the Web Admin Tool from a web server that is not physically located with the mail server. It is possible to configure the Web Admin Tool to allow the user to select the mail server to be administered. For more information see the "Web Administration Tool Technical Guide" - WEB_ADMIN_TECH_GUIDE.PDF. --------- Significant Problems Fixed in This Release ---------------------- The following problems were fixed in the 9.1 release of the Samsung Contact server: 8.0.3 and 8.0 OLD PIMS data migration into 8.5.0 fails (1595) Test virus scanning no longer works (1680) Audit log shows client-type 19 POP3 for Web client (1814) The following problems were fixed in the 8.5 release of the Samsung Contact server: Removed sticky bits from files where possible (1159) Fixed simple omshowcda output (1127) webselect.cgi now includes the Samsung Contact web client (93) User specific ACL now over-rides all other ACLs (375) omlimit no longer adds multiple general.cfg lines (306) ommodu allows some modifications to logged in users (422) New mail notification ceases after user logged in for an undetermined length of time (1218) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LICENSING REQUIREMENTS FOR INSTALLATION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This version of Samsung Contact includes a 45-day evaluation license. Read this section to find out whether you need to purchase licenses before installing Samsung Contact. To purchase licenses directly, or to find your local sales office, see the Samsung Contact Web site. For more information about the Samsung Contact licensing functionality, see the "Samsung Contact Licensing Guide". This is the file LICENSING_GUIDE.PDF in the DOCS directory on your distribution media. For licensing requirements for upgrading to Samsung Contact from OpenMail, see the section "UPGRADING FROM HP OpenMail" in this document. For licensing purposes, the issue date of the Samsung Contact 9.1 server software is 01-December-2004. This section covers the following topics: o New Samsung Contact Installation o Upgrading from a Previous Version of Samsung Contact o Running Samsung Contact in a Clustering Environment ----- New Samsung Contact Installation --------------------------- If you are installing Samsung Contact for the first time, you do not need to purchase a license to run the installation. The software comes with a free evaluation license that allows you to install and run it for 45 days while you purchase valid licenses. Note that it may take some time to raise orders and issue licenses, so allow sufficient time to get the licenses before the evaluation period expires. ----- Upgrading from a Previous Version of Samsung Contact ------- If you have purchased a maintenance agreement, you may be entitled to upgrade to this version of Samsung Contact without purchasing new licenses. On your current Samsung Contact system, run the sclicense command. o If the Latest valid Samsung Contact issue date is earlier than the software issue date, you will NOT be allowed to upgrade. Do not attempt to install the software. You must purchase support licenses for your existing servers before installing this version. o If the Latest valid Samsung Contact issue date is later than the software issue date, you will be able to upgrade to the new version without purchasing additional licenses. NOTE: Only customers who have purchased Support and Maintenance for Samsung Contact are entitled to upgrade to the next release of Samsung Contact, without purchasing an upgrade. If you did not purchase Support with your current version of Samsung Contact, your License file will not have an LVID (Latest Valid Installation Date) which is later than the release date of the new version. It may not have an LVID at all. If your license file does not have an LVID that is later than the release date of the new version, but you try to upgrade to the new version, your licenses will not work and Samsung Contact will not start. You will have to purchase an upgrade to the new version or restore the system to a licensed version. ----- Running Samsung Contact in a Clustering Environment ------- If you are running Samsung Contact in an clustering environment such as MC/ServiceGuard on HP-UX, you do not need separate licenses for each machine in the cluster. You must make sure that you have purchased sufficient licenses for all the server instances running on your main machines. These licenses are automatically available on each system in the cluster. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UPGRADING FROM HP OpenMail ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: This section does not apply to SuSE Linux or Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server. Read this section if you are upgrading from HP OpenMail version 6.0 or 7.0. This section covers the following topics: o Licensing requirements o Upgrading from OpenMail 6.0 o Before upgrading a system running OpenMail Instances (HP-UX only) o Changes to the Default Auto-Reply Configuration Options o Removing the setting for distributed licensing o OpenMail features not supported by Samsung Contact ----- Licensing requirements ------ You must purchase a valid Samsung Contact license before you can upgrade from OpenMail to Samsung Contact. Existing OpenMail licenses are not recognized by Samsung Contact. To obtain a license, you need to provide some information about your OpenMail server. Do the following: 1) Copy the program SCLICINFO from the appropriate platform directory on the SERVER CD-ROM. For example: a) cp /mnt/cdrom/SERVER/HPUX/SCLICINFO /tmp/sclicinfo b) chmod +x /tmp/sclicinfo 2) Run SCLICINFO to get a Samsung Contact serial number for your server. You must do this for each server that you want to license. This includes servers running on different machines and multiple servers (instances) running on a single machine. For multiple instances on a single machine, set OMCURRENT to the name of instance and then run SCLICINFO. Repeat this for each instance. 3) Record all the output of sclicinfo. You will be asked to provide this information when purchasing licenses. ----- Upgrading from OpenMail 6.0 ----- If you are upgrading from OpenMail 6.0, it is recommended that you also read the OpenMail 7.0 release notes before upgrading to Samsung Contact. The OpenMail 7.0 release notes are called OMNOTES.TXT on your distribution media in the OTHER/REL7.0 directory. Alternatively, you can obtain the release notes from http://www.openmail.com ----- Before Upgrading an OpenMail System Running Multiple Instances --- This note applies to HP-UX systems only. Before you upgrade from an OpenMail system running multiple instances, you must do the following additional step: 1) Open the configuration file for the Internet Services daemon /etc/inetd.conf 2) Delete the line that starts openmailpxy ----- Removing the Setting for Distributed Licensing ----- Distributed or virtual licensing is replaced by new license lending functionality. If you have set LML_USE_DIST_LIC=TRUE in ~/sys/general.cfg, sclicense reports that you have valid licenses but Samsung Contact will fail to start correctly. You must do the following: 1) Remove the line LML_USE_DIST_LIC=TRUE from general.cfg 2) Restart your Samsung Contact server. ----- OpenMail Features Not Supported by Samsung Contact ------ omadmin Since OpenMail B.07, the Web admin tool is the new graphical administration tool. advmail OpenMail B.07 discontinued the advmail client. Existing OpenMail customers could use an OpenMail system as an HP DeskManager gateway. omgui These clients are not supported by Samsung SDS but may still function correctly against a Samsung Contact server. The old licensing commands have been retired and are replaced by new ones as described in the NEW FEATURES AND CHANGES section. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- POST-INSTALLATION TASKS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Edit the SMTP Relay Configuration File After Upgrading ----- If your system is configured for the SMTP Relay, we highly recommend that some filtering rules are used for the relay. After upgrading the server, the filtering rules may be specified in the SMTP Relay configuration file ~/sys/smtpd.cfg. The following is an example the SMTP Relay configurations: RELAY accept .example.com RELAY reject all RECIPIENT reject *@*@* RECIPIENT reject *%* RECIPIENT reject *!* RECIPIENT reject *#*@* where .example.com is the name of your domain. For more information, refer to "The Sendmail Interface and the SMTP Relay" section in the Technical Guide. ----- Enabling PIMS Interoperability ----- If you wish to use PIMS interoperability, you MUST add the following configuration option to ~/sys/general.cfg: "USE_CONTACT_PIMS=TRUE". See the "How To: PIMS Interoperability" and for more details. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOWN PROBLEMS AND RESTRICTIONS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Known Problems ----- This section describes known problems and their solutions: o Running sclicense after a new installation (704) o Admin user created release 7.1 or earlier unable to give admin caps to other users (1248) o PIMS Interoperability limitations See the "New Features and Changes" section for the Warning about upgrading to Version 9.1 and not being able to downgrade. ----- Running sclicense after a New Installation (704) -------- Before using "sclicense -i" to request a license, you must create at least one mailnode and then start Samsung Contact; Otherwise, sclicense reports the following error: "This contact instance has never been started, please start it". ----- Admin user created 7.1 or earlier unable to give admin caps to others (1248) ---- When you run omshowu on a full admin user, the Capabilities lines should have the values shown below. User Name : John Doe ... Admin Capabilities : YES ... Capabilities: admin If an admin user is unable to assign admin capabilities to others, run omshowu on the admin user. If the second Capabilities line has a null value, you need to remove admin capabilities from the user then re-add them: As root: ommodu -o user -c -admin ommodu -o user -c admin omshowu -n user The Capabilities lines should now display the values shown above. ----- PIMS Interoperability limitations ------------------------ (1) Migration of old Samsung Contact PIM data in folders other than Inbox or PIMS folders Old Samsung Contact PIM data in folders other than Inbox or PIMS folders (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Notes) are not migrated.
